Adam James K is a socially conscious artist who explores themes that comment on man’s abuse and destruction of the world and its inhabitants. His goal is to create work that is provocative and thought-provoking in the hope that it will raise awareness as well as inspire
Adam is a multi-disciplinary artist using painting, video, performance, sculpture and photography to create multi-media works and events.
He has been exhibiting for 28 years and has had many solo and group shows in Australia and the United States. His work is in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, National Portrait Gallery, National Library of Australia, Monash Gallery of Art, Gold Coast City Art Gallery, Tweed River Regional Gallery, and The Museum for the Study of Political Graphics, Los Angeles, USA.
Adam James K started his career as Adam James Knott and for the first 18 years of his practice he specialised in the medium of photography. Ten years ago Adam embarked on a fine arts degree and now includes painting, performance, video, and sculpture as integral parts of his practice.
He has been a finalist in the Moran Portrait Prize for Painting and the Moran Photographic Prize on six occasions and has been the only artist in Moran’s 25 year history to be included as a finalist in both the Painting and Photography sections in the same year.
Whilst residing in the United States, Adam held the positions of Adjunct Professor of Art & Design at Mt. Sierra College and the Otis College of Art & Design. He taught Fine Art Painting and Drawing, Photography and Video.
Adam James K currently lives in small cabin in the remote Blue Mountains of Australia with his wife, the author Erin Vincent, and their tortoiseshell cat Foofee.
